Property Details Our large and comfortable home is located in a lovely neighborhood in the first suburb north of Chicago, Evanston--home to Northwestern University. Our home is near public transportation into Chicago and to the beaches of Lake Michigan. It is a good base from which to take in Chicago's many cultural activities and summer festivals, interspersed with long days at the beach. It is also a good base from which to take a day trip or overnight to a more rural vacation setting, the popular lakeside village of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, about one and a half hours from our home. Another popular Illinois rural area is Galena, IL, an historic and quaint village that was once home to a U.S. president/ Civil War general. The Amtrak train also passes through Evanston if you would like a driving-free trip into the countryside. Area Details Good residential neighborhood but with urban-area amenities, and the beach as a bonus... Downtown Evanston is known for its many fine restaurants and cultural activities. Travel Details Near the Amtrak into Chicago or out of state; also near the "el" train into Chicago; buses to the Evanston beach are about four blocks from our home
