Property Details
Our home is a very modern, warm, 3 bedroom house, with pool and spa, in a safe, quiet area of Auckland, but not far from everything. We are a family of four, made up of Mike (company manager and dad, 42), Arghini (a busy wife and mother, 41), and two boys: Blanco (13) and Seb (8). We are all ‘Kiwis’, with Mike having been born here and Arghini emigrating when she was four (of Greek parents).
We have a modern, warm, home on our own corner site in the Eastern Suburbs of Auckland. It’s not ‘huge’, as the Architectural design lends itself to a lot of indoor/outdoor living, but there has always been plenty of room for us, and we are very proud of the impression it has had on friends and visitors. It will comfortably sleep six people. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, as the subdivision is built in the ‘middle’ of the Remuera Golf Course (but please note we are not immediately adjacent to a fairway). The house is basically all on one level, with just a few steps at the entrance. There is a swimming pool and spa pool, which we use often, but because of the period of time we will be away, the spa will be inactive. The pool will be maintained by an independent contractor (and friend) in our absence in conjunction with anyone that stays, as will the lawn and garden. We ask that nobody smokes in the house.
We have garaging for two cars, and will leave at least one car available for use, which will be a mid-size four door automatic. There will be at least one set of golf clubs available as well. The first tee is a 5 minute walk from our front door.
Our home has three bedrooms, the master (with full en suite bathroom), one bedroom with a loft, and another with a set of bunks (double/single). The boys have a full bathroom adjacent to their rooms. There is a guest toilet.
Mike has worked in the Importation/Distribution business for many years, specifically with motor vehicles (franchises for Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, VW, Chrysler/Jeep etc). Unfortunately, we won’t be leaving a new one in the garage. Because of his (our) hard work, we find ourselves lucky enough to be in a position where we can take an extended holiday (at least a year) overseas, and therefore have considered the Home Exchange option for periods of 3 or 4 weeks in a variety of countries we plan to visit. While it is perhaps not the norm, as simultaneous exchanges may be more common, we see it as an excellent alternative in our circumstances, as we have no desire to sell (or rent) our home. Also, we feel that staying in someone’s home will help give us a better impression of the country we are in, as opposed to a hotel room, with the added advantage of maybe meeting friends, family or neighbors.
Both Mike and Arghini have traveled extensively in the past, and the boys have spent a number of holidays in the Pacific Islands and Australia.
While we will be travelling most of the time on our own, there is a small chance that immediate family (parent/brother/sister) may join us from time to time during the year. We only mention this at this very early stage as friends who have been involved in home exchange suggested it was better to mention it sooner, rather than later, to avoid any misunderstandings in case it happens to coincide with our visit.
Auckland and New Zealand are probably already known to you, and it would do both injustice to attempt to describe details here. Needless to say, we are very proud of our country, and would not hesitate for a moment to recommend it to any visitor, no matter what their interest. While we are probably well known for our countryside and scenery, it shouldn’t be forgotten that we boast a strong cultural/theatre/café/nightlife environment in most of our cities – especially Auckland.
Finally, while it is yet to be formalised, we also hope to arrange access to our family beach house, which is situated on one of the loveliest coastlines in the world (the Coromandel Peninsula). This may only be available for the odd weekend, but if possible, will be extended to our ‘guests’.
While we are unable to provide ‘exchange’ references, we are happy to put you in touch with lawyers/accountants, family or friends as you see fit.
In the meantime, we would gratefully appreciate it if you could let us know if you are interested or not, and ask you to advise us of some approximate dates of both when you wish to visit, and, if different, when it may be convenient for us to stay.
Thanks very much for your time. We look forward to your reply.
Best regards,
Mike, Arghini, Blanco and Seb.
