Situated in the heart of the New Forest, our two bedroom apartment is part of a Georgian mansion built in circa 1750, set in six acres of landscaped gardens and arboretum. The spacious rooms have high ceilings and large windows. Built on the top of one of the highest hills in the area, the living room and kitchen have views that stretch across the tree tops all the way to the Isle of Wight. The apartment has all the usual modern conveniences including a recently refurbished kitchen with dishwasher, eye level oven and washer/dryer. There is an ensuite bathroom to the master bedroom and an additional shower room. Sitting, admiring the view from the grand living room (22’ x 18’), with its marble fireplace, chandeliers and views of the formal garden below, it is possible to imagine days gone by, when George III was reputed to visit the house. Area Details It would be tempting to stay in this quiet, idyllic spot watching deer and foxes from the window or wandering through the garden with its three hundred year trees and talking to the very friendly neighbours, but the surrounding area is well worth exploring. Throughout the year the New Forest, soon to become a national park, is one of Britain’s top tourist destinations. If you enjoy walking, there are 100 square miles of woodland and open heath where people can wander freely, along with the ponies, cattle and pigs claiming their ancient rights of ‘panage’. Historical sights abound, such as Buckler’s Hard, where ships were built for centuries, or Beaulieu Abbey, now also the National Motor Museum. There are many rural villages with their idyllic country pubs and the sea is a mere ten miles away. Travel Details Apart from the local shops and supermarkets, Southampton, the nearest large centre for ‘serious’ shopping, is a 20 minute drive. Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset are just ‘next door’ and can be reached within about half an hour along a fast road. If you wish to venture further afield, the historic towns of Salisbury and Winchester are within a 45 minute drive. The New Forest also is well served by motorways making travel to the rest of England easy. Oxford, Bristol and London can all be reached within a couple of hours. From the village of Brockenhurst, just 5 miles away, there are frequent rail connections to London and the rest of southern England and Wales. From nearby Southampton, Portsmouth and Poole there are ferries to France, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Wight
