– Our vacation home is a cozy, lakefront cottage in Garrett County, Maryland (USA). Located on Deep Creek Lake, which has a 62-mile shoreline, the cottage is small, but wonderful. It sleeps 6 with 2 bedrooms and a sofa bed in the living room. It has a fireplace, private dock, and boats available for your water sports. (Water skiing, rowing, kayaking) In the winter months, snow skiing is a popular sport in our area with the Wisp Ski Resort only 20 minutes away.
We have rented our cottage for 18 years for 1 or 2 weeks at a time. We now have our regulars who want to come back every year because they love the place. Some renters have returned for 18 years!
My husband will be retiring in December 2003, and after that our vacations will be very flexible.
We especially would like to trade in the winter months for us, but it could be arranged for you to come to our cottage in the summer months, which are the best if you enjoy the warmer weather, swimming, and water sports. June, July, and August temperatures range from 70 to 90 degrees.
September and October are usually gorgeous on Deep Creek Lake and in all of Garrett County. The leaves turn brilliant colors, and it is an awesome sight to see. September is usually quite warm—70’s and 80’s, while October has some warm and some cool days. We have an annual “Autumn Glory Festival” with many activities associated with it. The dates are always around the second week in October. Garrett County also has an annual Springs (name of Amish town) Folk Festival. This is lovely—with artisans and craftsmen producing their crafts and selling them, sheep sheering demonstrations, and many other interesting old-time activities and demonstrations.
We sometimes get lots of snow in the winter months, and skiers would love Garrett County in the wintertime!
Our main house is only 20 minutes away, and it is possible that you could use this house also. Our main home is quite roomy. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, a large den, a sun porch, and a huge deck. Kenny is a “hobby” farmer, (This is not his real job.) and our home is located on a small, 70-acre farm. We raise Black Angus cattle and white leghorn chickens, and we sell our fresh eggs to friends and small grocery stores in our area.

More about us: I (Cathy) am a retired schoolteacher – age 59.
My husband (Kenny) is a maintenance coordinator for Mead Westvaco (a paper mill, which makes fine papers), having 43 years service. We have two married daughters, ages 38 and 37, and two adorable grandsons, ages seven and four. We enjoy traveling, gardening, reading, boating, piano (Cathy – taking lessons in my retirement years), and playing cards.

The lake has a 62-mile shoreline and is well used by tourists for many water sports, as well as the rural setting of Garrett County.
