We live in a large, modern, 4 bedroomed detached house on the outskirts of Helston in Cornwall . The house has all the usual modern conveniences and has one bedroom with ensuite facilities as well as 2 further bathrooms / washrooms. The house also contains a living / dining room and a separate playroom which is ideal for kids ! In the garage you will find camping gear, body boards, wet suits & loads of beach toys as well as 2 adult bikes and several suitable for small children. We also have a camper/trailer which you might be able to use and a 14 ft boat with outboard motor for river cruising. Our house is situated in a quiet cul de sac and backs onto a country lane with fields behind it. We are about a 10 minute drive to the beautiful Cornish coast with its beautiful beaches and superb cliff walks. There is a huge number of attractions for the visitor within Cornwall and you are only a 20 minute drive away from catching a direct rail connection to London if you want a complete contrast!
Cornwall U.K. Area Details Our house is situated in a quiet cul de sac and backs onto a country lane with fields behind it. There are far too many tourist attractions to mention here but you are only a short drive to the west to the castle and island of St.Michael’s Mount and on to Penzance and finally to the world famous “Lands End”. A short helicopter ride or boat trip from Penzance will take you to the sub tropical “Isles of Scilly” where you can enjoy some peace and tranquillity and a micro climate which is the envy of us all!
To the north lies the picture postcard sea-side town of St. Ives, famed for its artists and the “Tate Gallery”. Just across the bay from St Ives stands Godrevy Lighthouse ( as in Virginia Wolf’s “To the Lighthouse” ) together with miles and miles of spectacular cliff walks & lovely beaches. If you’ve read any of Rosemund Pilcher the far west of Cornwall should be quite familiar to you. On the north coast you can also quickly reach the UK’s No.1 surfing resort, Newquay and if you head further east you can immerse yourself in the legend of King Arthur at Tintagel Castle.
To the east of Helston lies Falmouth with its wealth of sailing & boating opportunities together with the National Maritime Museum. Just west of Falmouth you can see the beautiful Helford Estuary & Frenchman’s Creek made famous by the writer Daphne Du Maurier. If you prefer wilder scenery head for the top of Bodmin Moor where you will soon come upon “Jamaica Inn” also made famous by Du Maurier.
Further east will bring you to the “Eden Project” ( as seen in the latest James Bond movie! ) with its indoor Tropical & Mediterranean biomes – an unforgettable visit.
If you want to travel further afield, an hour & a half’s drive will bring you to the naval city of Plymouth in the county of Devon – the city from which the “Pilgrim Fathers” set sail for America! There are, of course, the usual tourist attractions such as theme parks, heritage sights and a host of childrens’ attractions too numerous to mention here but if you are interested in doing an exchange, perhaps you could let me know so that I can send you some more information about our home and the beautiful area of Cornwall.
