Prefer large cities--spring or fall; summer is possible
We can travel any time, but prefer non school holidays, except in colder climates, such as Scandinavia.
There is a large upstairs bedroom and bath with a view of the bay and the hills beyond it. Downstairs is a small bedroom with a twin bed & bath. The living room couch pulls out into a very comfortable queen-size bed.
There's a sitting room with TV and VCR, lots of CDs (mostly classical, some jazz and show albums), a small back yard with fruit trees and other edibles. The front yard contains a macadamia nut tree, shrubs and drought-tolerant flowers.
We have every appliance known to the modern world, including a professional stove (cooker) and about 50 cookbooks, so you can experiment with recipes if you want. Two major supermarkets and a green grocer are a 10-minute drive away. Plenty of good restaurants, prices for which are a true bargain for Europeans.
There's a large, eclectic library, two bikes, lots of books, a harpsichord and grand piano.
We have no pets, as Catherine has allergies. We ask that you do not smoke in the house for the same reason. Area Details Our neighborhood, Pacific Beach, is residential and our neighbors are friendly and helpful. Mission Bay is surrounded by a park with beaches and grassy areas for picnics and barbecues.
Homes are pricey and well cared for. Balboa Park, about five miles from our house, is full of museums and other attractions. We have the largest outdoor pipe organ in the world. Free concerts every Sunday afternoon and in summer, a weekly concert by visiting organists.
Also in Balboa Park are the Old Globe Theaters (there are three). There is a Shakespeare festival in summer--one comedy, one tragedy--and other plays as well. It operates year-round. There are many other stage shows.
Sea World is directly across the bay from our house--about a 20-minute walk. The San Diego Zoo is in Balboa Park and the Wild Animal Park about an hour's drive north. LegoLand is in Carlsbad, about 40 minutes north.
Fishing Boats are available from Mission Bay. Whale watching time is January and February.
We are about 40 minutes from the Mexican border. It is not wise to drive there because takes hours to return to the U.S. If you want to visit Mexico, BE SURE TO GET A MULTIPLE-ENTRY VISA or you won't be able to get back to the U.S. There is a trolley that will take you to the border and you can walk across. It's easier and faster to walk across the border than to drive. Travel Details We have a roomy Pontiac sedan with full accessories and insurance. However, we're two short blocks from a bus line which connects all areas of San Diego.
